Do you think Luke's parents feel guilty for the life Luke must lead? On what are you basing your opinion?
I think they do feel guilty because in the book his mom defends him and is down when she sees him looking out the window at Matthew and Mark playing or doing work with dad. Johara E.
I think Luke's parents feel guilty for bringing Luke into this situation. He also has a very supportive family with him even though he isn't supposed to be alive because it is against the law. His mother in my opinion is the most supportive and helpful to Luke, she does more than his father and two brothers. In conclusion I think his parents feel guilty for giving Luke this sort of life to lead by himself. It's hard because he is considered an illegal third child in the state or country he is living in which is against the laws that the government is posing.
I agree with you mostly Courtney but the part where you said his parents are supportive his dad supports him enough to keep him from being found but, to me he seems like he is kind of mean like that one part near the beginning Luke said: "So will I have to start hiding soon?" His dad replied with "Soon, you have to start hiding NOW everyone and their brother is gonna be here!" If my dad said something like that I would not like him very much because he made me feel sad.
I think that Luke's parents feel guilty about the life he has to live because, they brought him into the world to live a miserable life. Instead of a normal life he has to hide in his house all day. He has no friends and, he also has never met any relative. He also has barely any experience with the outside world. In conclusion Luke's parents feel guilty for him.
Your statement is true all the way. Why else would his parents feel guilty for him other than not being to play outside or go to school or see any relatives? Yes he has to hide inside the house but he doesn't have to all day. He could possibly go outside but he would also put himself in huge danger and at risk of being seen. He does have experience with the outside world because we used to go out in his woods before the government bought it from them causing him to have to stay inside without a choice.
I totally agree with you Andrew, why wouldn't the parents feel guilty? They brought him into this world, he wasn't supposed to exist and he has to pretend he doesn't. They are forced to hide him and Luke didn't have a choice. He is breathing, speaking, and moving but he is not living the life the way his brothers are, like you said, he has no friends and living a miserable life. Why WOULDN'T his parents feel guilty? They brought him into this world, HE was THEIR MISTAKE.
Andrew I don't agree with you his parents didn't want him to live a miserable life because in the beginning of the book Luke got to go outside and do normal kid stuff. Johara E.
I think that Luke's parents feel guilty because they brought him to a terrible life. Even though Luke's parents feel guilty they are still supportive . If I were Luke's father I would feel guilty but still support him. As Luke's father I would do the best I can to keep him safe-Alexis R.
I think they feel pretty guilty but they are also happy at the same time because, heck Luke is still part of the family, right? He did not do anything and he has to hide that is why they feel guilty but, not completely.
They should feel guilty. I mean after all they should see the life Luke is living. He can't go outside, he doesn't know how to communicate with other people, and he doesn't go to school. They brought him to this world, and he shouldn't really be there.
Though the parents are kind of guilty they are also sad since he has live the life inside a house,not go outside to play and he doesn't have any friends to play with. Also they might be guilty since he probably didn't learn anything or he doesn't know anything about the outside world. The parents in my opinion are more sad and feel sorry than feel guilty.

Luke's parent's must feel guilty because he can't do anything his brothers can and at this point in the story he can't even eat with his own family. Luke has to spend most of his day up in his room waiting for his mom because she's the only one that ever does anything for him ever since the woods were knocked down to build houses for other people.
I think Luke's parents do feel guilty because they broke a law. And Luke can't even eat with his family and he can't be a regular person because he can't do anything. And they feel guilty because he can't even go to the store or a restuarant with them.
I think that the parents do feel guilty. They know that he does not have that opportunities Luke's brothers have. And that he will have to live with them forever. He will never go to collage, or get a job, get married, have kids, or grand-kids. That is why I think Luke's parents feel guilty.
Lukes parents are clearly guilty that Luke has to live his life locked up in a room all his life, but there is also some feeling that they are also ashamed of him. Sometimes the way his father acts makes you think that he really doesn't want to be his father. His father acts this way because of what he and his wife made Luke go through.
