Why does Luke now think of his home as a prison rather than a sanctuary?
He thinks of it as a prison because it is keeping him out of the outside world, if that house was not there he would have more motivation to go and do something about the three child policy.
This is a good answer Nathan, but have you thought that if he was the second born child life would be totally different. he won't be able to even imagine how it is like. He probably wouldn't care.
He thinks of his home as a prison instead of a sanctuary because of the fact that he is being kept inside. The last time he went out was 6 months ago, which he couldn't even look out a window. His home is like a prison to him because it's keeping him from the outside world of freedom. Because of this, his motivation for the need to be outside is getting stronger and he needs to do something and do it quickly.
Luke thinks of his home as a prison more than a sanctuary because he is stuck inside and wont be able to go out for a long time now that the forest is being cut down. It isn't a sanctuary because he doesn't want to be stuck inside.
I agree with you Hope but he is in that house until he is probally dead or maybe if the pilcy gets cut. In the book it sometimes says that he likes it alone sometimes. Have you ever thought if he has momments where he enjoys being inside?
Luke is incapable of going outside so when he did he thought it was a prison because he hasn't been outside for six months. Outside you are free and so when you are inside for that long you feel trapped from the outside world. He doesn't even know what is going on in the world except for what his father and brother tells him.
Luke thinks of his home more as a prison than a sanctuary because he knows what it feels to be outside again and feels like the house is just keeping him in and shutting the world out. When you're in prison, you're stuck in a prison cell for an amount of time. He's stuck in his attic and can't even step foot in his kitchen anymore and who knows when he'll get out of HIS prison.
Luke thinks that his home is a prison rather than a sanctuary, because he can't leave his house, he can't look out of windows, and he can't even sit at the dinner table. He has to hide the fact that he can see outside from his room. He probably feels like his home is a prison, and his bedroom is his jail cell.
Luke thinks of his home as a prison because he cant go outside anymore or do what he was able to do before.He can't even eat with his family anymore.He also has to hide in the attic everyday.Basically with all that going on it might seem like a prison.It's like a prison because in prison you are always locked up unless when you have to eat just like Luke does in his house.
Luke thinks of his home as a prison mainly because he thinks he's never going to get out of his home. He can't eat with his family or even look outside the window, and that is what is causing him to think of the house as a prison.
Luke thinks his home is a prison rather than a sanctuary because he can't go outside like he used to and he can't even go up to his window to see the world. Before the government chopped down the woods Luke used to go outside but now he can only stay in his house and to him it feels like a prison.

I do agree with you but what if the government doesn't stop the child law. What happens when Luke is 18 and has to get a living he wouldn't be able to since the government will find out that he was a third child and he will get arrested. He would probably stay inside his own house forever.
He feels like this because he can't go outside and play in the forest because it is being cut down. He also can't eat at the dinner table with his family.
I think that luke doesn't feel safe because in him home and thinks it's a prison because he never gets out he can't call on the phone he doesn't have any friends other than his brothers and family. He cannot watch television and has to read the same books over and over again, and he can't go to his backyard because workers got rid of the forest that hid him when he could go out. Also, Mark and Matthew get angry with him not having to do chores or go to school.
He feels like it is a prison because he remembers what it is like to play outside and now he is stuck inside and it is all silent and he can here his mother calling to him, "Luke inside now"

Luke cant go out side to play with his brother or someone will notice there are three children. So Luke cant do anything other than be quiet as a mouse
Luke refers to his home as a prison other than a sanctuary because, he isn't allowed to go outside he's barely allowed to step out of his room, and with his visit to the sport family's house he must of realized that the sport families third child has a lot of luxuries and opportunities that he doesn't. So obviously he'd refer to his home as a prison other than a safe and caring place where he is hidden from the population police.
Luke thinks his home is like a prison because it seals him from the outside world. He also cannot eat with his family, so he feels very lonely and upset.
Luke believes this because he can't do anything. He can't go outside, do the things his siblings do, he can't even look outside. If Government officials or even citizens see him he can become an orphan and, his parents can get arrested for having an illegal third child.

He can't even look out the window and all he can do is just stay inside and do nothing. Also his brother Mark and Matthew are mad because they have to go to school and do his chores.

The reason why he thinks his house is a prison is because he has to live in his hot attic. He thinks its unfair because Jen can watch t.v while she has her windows open. All Luke has are crackers and other snacks.
That is a good really answer but I don't think Luke thinks the situation is unfair. He might think that it is just different than what he is living through right now. Jen and Luke also have different lives including money situation. Jen has all the money in the world and Luke really doesn't

Luke thinks he is in prison because he can't go outside or be seen. He also has to live in a basement so no one can see him. So he is like a secret and he is living in a small room like a prison.
Luke thinks his home is a prison rather than a sanctuary because he is trapped there 24/7 365 days. He isn't allowed to leave the house in fear someone will see him. And his mother didn't even tell him why until recently. If i was Luke I would have just escaped and kept going never to turn back. Even though i would be leaving my family I would think leaving and going someplace else would be a much better life than just staying contained in a house for pretty much the rest of my life.
I don't agree with you because leaving his house would keep in more danger than usual because he could get caught by the government and if that didn't happen he would die of dehydration and/or starvation
I agree with you Jessica ,but I don't think he cold even go outside is the goverment lets them because he might get cought and never be able to go outside. If Jen told on him with his father and Luke didn't notice he might get cought and Jen could hide while he gets cought.
I agree with you Maddi. I think that Luke sees his house like a prison rather than a sanctuary because he can't even step foot into the kitchen or else the government might see him. He can only stay in his room, the attic, and keep on reading the same book over and over again and that would be boring like in a real prison, it's boring just having to sit or stand there not doing anything like Luke's house. So I think that Luke sees his house like a prison more than a sanctuary because a sanctuary is a safe and protective place.
I agree with you Fernanda but even though it's true that Luke can't go into the kitchen unless his parents say its ok the government wouldn't see him right away. But his neighbors would then they would call the population police to take him away. I also agree that he can only stay in his room without doing anything fun like most kids do which includes reading the same book.
I agree with you also Courtney because Luke can't even go outside and have fun. He has to be kept inside and do nothing for the rest of his life. He has only been kept inside for about 6 months but for him, it feels like his whole life.It is just like a prison, just staying there and staring at the selling in his room, the attic.

His room isnt even a room it is an attic. If I lived in an attic and couldnt even eat at the table with my family I would feel like I would be in a prison too.
