Explore Luke's relationships with his brothers and his parents. How close are they? How trusting? Does Luke have more in common with Jen than with his own family? Why or why not?
Luke does not have a very close relationship with his family. He has more in common with Jen because they are both a 3rd child. Sure Luke and Jen has very different lives and families, they both have a common secret. They both know how it feels to be hidden and not supposed to exist.
Jessica, I agree that Luke appears to be closer to Jen, because of their common secret. But besides the fact that Luke is a third, why do you think he isn't as close to his family as he was before? If he ever was close at all.
Jarita, his family feels the need to hide him and to protect him, that's why they're not that close. because his parents keep worrying about how he could be found and taken away or something would happen to him, they are overprotective.
Jessica, your reasoning's are very logical. But do you think that even though they feel protective, they might also feel another feeling. Perhaps that they want to get rid of Luke, just in case he is discovered, to save themselves? Or maybe because he is a third Luke never really formed a connection in the first place, nor did his family.
Jessica I agree with you and Jarita because he might of had a close relationship with his family but it might have fallen apart from the weeks he had to stay inside.
Angelina, just because they aren't close doesn't mean Luke's family doesn't love him, and, Jarita, your suggestion of his family hiding him for others reasons can very well be true. First of all, his family is so scared of the government finding out he exist, why would they turn him in? I can understand how the family can be hiding him only to try to push Luke out of their lives. But, I don't think of his family as a selfish, heartless family that would do that. They aren't saying harsh words to Luke or anything.
I agree with you. But, Luke is unsure about the rally. I don't think he knows witch side to choose. Jen, the government, or his family. He agrees that the population police are being to serious. But, when he read the article on that the third children are taking all of the food, and other people in other countries are starving because of them. He thinks that it's his fault that people he doesn't even know are starving because of him. So, I think that Luke is in a tough situation.
Luke and his family never really seem close. Despite the bonds of family lines, which are hard to ignore, they never seem to have a connection, or be really close. Sometimes his family will come and play a game with him, but that's really all. He seems to be closer to Jen, because as Jessica said, they both share a common secret, they are thirds. However, Luke really doesn't seem close to anyone, though Jen is the closest. Luke appears to be trusting sometimes, but are the ones he trusts, really trust worthy?
Angelina, Luke's parents don't go up to his room that much anymore because of the danger of doing so. His mom got a working permit so she isn't home all day anymore, she's getting more hours. Jarita is right by saying that no one usually comes up to greet him usually with a game but not in while.
I think Luke has more in common with Jen because she knows how hard it is and how it feels like to be a third child and his family doesn't know how that feels. They get to go out in public, people know who they are, and they're free and Luke doesn't know how that feels. Luke and his family aren't really close and don't really talk as much as they use to when his brothers were out of school and his parents weren't working. He's also nervous about going over to Jen's house but now he's use to it because he feels he can trust her not how he has felt with anybody else except for probably his family.
I think that Luke is not very close to his family, and I don't think he could trust him. They could easily give him up, and they won't have to pay the fine. They have other problems, and I don't think they want to deal with Luke. I think that he has more in common with Jen because they are both thirds. They know the feeling of being a third. How can Luke's family know how it is like to be a third if they are not even thirds.
I think that Luke and his parents are closer than Mathew or Mark because neither of them ever go up to his attic to play a game. I think that Luke has more in common with Jen than his family because there both third children and how would anyone in either one of thier families feel if they had to be hiding for all of their childhood maybe longer even.

For example, Luke feels unhappy and sad because he is an illegal child unlike Mathew and Mark, Mathew and Mark are happy to go to school and are free to do anything just like their parents, mom and dad can work and they fell glad. Luke is like neither of his family, but I think he has more in common with Jen than his family because they are both an illegal child, they are both hiding, and they are both kids. This is why Luke and Jen are both in common, because I don't think that Luke and his family have anything in common.
I think Luke is more like his parents because his parents are careful and make sure that unless Luke deliberately goes and gets caught nothing will happen to him.

He is starting to realize that his parents might be kinda paranoid about the government, unlike Jen who thinks the government knows nothing and loves keeping secrets. Jen and Luke are very different and very alike. Different by amount of income, wealth, different ways of thinking about the government and safety. Alike by same secret and same likes and dislikes. His family is trust worthy but are they telling Luke the full truth? His mother and father sometimes go up to the attic and talk to him but now with everyone working it's hardly ever.
I think Luke and Jen are alike because they both know what it is like to be the third child and not go anywhere. And his brothers can go outside whenever they want to and he can't go outside, and Jen isn't able to go outside either and they both know what it feels like. And Luke's parents are trusting because they told Luke the truth and they didn't keep it away from him when he asked.
