How is Jen's attitude about the government different from Luke's? What causes this contrast? Who do you agree with more? Explain.
Jen's attitude is different from Luke's attitude towards the government, because she is not scared of the government while Luke is scared of the government. Jen doesn't hide in the attic like Luke does, because she has a big house, and her parents are rich. In the book it says that the parents can bribe people if they saw Jen. I would have to agree with Luke's attitude, because if I was in Luke's situation if someone found out that I am a third who knows what will happen, but I wouldn't hide in the attic all day.
You say that Jennifers family can bribe the population police, well I believe that even if they were caught they could pay the fees if that was the punishment they could pay the fine, or hospital fees if it was a surgery.
Luke and Jen have different ideas about the government. Jen doesn't have much respect for the rules and laws of the government. Luke on the other hand, has so much respect he is scared to breathe sometimes. Luke is poor and has to live inside of the attic because of his condition. Jen gets her own room and if someone sees her the parents could bribe them that they didn't see a thing. I would want to be Luke because I would worry about the government finding me everyday and I would have nightmares.
I agree with you Courtney. Jen does not have that much respect towards the government. Although, does Luke respect the government, or does he fear the government?
Jen's attitude is different than Luke's because Jen has a rich family a nice house and she is just laid back because why should Jen hide when if somone sees her, her parents can just bribe them to say nothing? Jen also must be happy because she doesent even have to go to school so I assume she would be happy. But then there is Luke, Luke has to hide all day and the only glimpse of the world he gets is looking through a vent. He is scared and he can barely gather the courage to go outside for a little bit. If you ask me there is a huge difference here.
I agree with you Nathan. I dont understand how she lives in a nice house and her parents are rich, how has the goverment not have found her yet, besides the bribery, wouldnt there be important people coming to see there house???!!! I think its confusing.
I agree, but how is Jen's family rich, it never said in the book, and if they were, wouldn't the rich people only be government workers where other government workers would go and soon discover Jen?
Jen is not really worried if the government sees her, but she is trying to hide so that the government does not separate Jen from the sport’s family. Luke is trying to hide so that the government can not see him, Luke is worried if the government find Luke because Luke is a shadow child and that means that he is an illegal child. If the government finds Luke, who knows what he would do to Luke. I think this is why Luke is afraid of the government and why Jen is not.
I agree a lot with you America. Its a mystery how Jen is so calm about being the third child. If I were Luke, I would be terrified about if the police finds out about me, I would either be exicuted, or have to play a large fine.
Jen is not afraid of the government at all. On the other hand Luke is terrified of them because of everything that people told him about them. I think that the government probably already knows and they may have made an exception, since the Sport's family is rich.
I don't know if the government would know already, because, yes, the government could have had them pay a fine but you don't know what the consequences of having a third child in this story because this isn't China. The penalty for having more than one child in China is a fine and if you are pregnant then, abortion. In this story, it may be different.

While Luke is sitting in his home, alone and not permitted to do anything scared that the government will find him and his family at any second.

Secondly, Jen even sets off alarms on purpose just to mess around. And last but not least, Luke's family is too scared to even tell relatives about Luke when Jen's family is rich and can bribe people and pay any fines.

So Luke lives in fear, always thinking the government is watching, causing him to be cautious. Where as Jen's family has always known power and resources. Jen has always lived freely, and richly. She has also had the experience to think that the government isn't always watching, rarely ever in fact. In thus, Luke's and Jens opinions differ.
Luke doesn't know that he is a shadow child, he doesn't even know what a shadow child is. He just knows he has to hide and can not be seen by the government. Well as for Jen she know about shadow children and she knows that she can not be seen by the government. So they are both different .

Jen is more demanding and jumpy about the government. Luke is only mad at them but keeps that to himself. Jen and Luke have a type of different opinion.
